"I am not dreaming" | Welcome Address (Speech Sample)

Delivered by my niece during the Recognition Program of Bacarra National Comprehensive High School (BNCHS) on April 1, 2019, the same day when she knew she passed the college admission test to where she is currently studying engineering. Because she was and has always been lazy (ha ha), she let me write this speech.

******************************************

“Wake me up and tell me I am not dreaming!”

“I said, wake me up and tell me I am not dreaming!”

These came from the mouth of a small boy who showed an early interest in flights and airplanes. Before he went to sleep one night, he was joyful in singing with his mom and dad. It might have been “Twinkle, twinkle little star!” He may have been wondered what stars are! Then they had their bed story. And then he fell asleep. Later that morning, he yelled, “Mom, wake me up! Tell me I am not dreaming!” When he was asked, he mentioned with excitement about his dreams. He dreamed that he walks in the moon. Years later, he became a pilot.. then an astronaut .. and later he was the first person recorded to step on the moon. He is the famous… (you said it right) Neil Armstrong.

I started my task this morning by sharing to you this brief story I once heard - a small boy who had a dream and then a vision. As we gathered here today, allow me to quote the vision of our beloved school. “Bacarra National Comprehensive High School envisions to produce productive, self-reliant, and globally competitive citizens guided by the highest standards of integrity and culture of excellence, thus, responsive to the challenges and demands of a fast changing and technology advancing society.”

Our esteemed Guest of Honor and Speaker, (state speaker’s name);

Municipal, DepEd, and PTA Officials;

Our active and dedicated principal, Dr.Norberto S. Galiza;

Faculty and Facilitative staffs;

Distinguished visitors;

Loving parents;

Fellow students;

Ladies and gentlemen, Good morning!

BNCHS is a hallmark of excellence, service, science, and virtue. Another school year has been passed. Another goal has been accomplished. Another dream has been achieved. And we are gathered this morning to celebrate those achievements.

Today signifies the culmination of another year worth of friendships, challenges, and opportunities. On this recognition day, may we be reminded to never rest on our laurels. Let us continue to GROW. Continue to be GUIDED. Continue to be GRATEFUL (grateful to our parents and teachers). And Continue to be GOD-FEARING (What we are and what we have is because of Him and all for Him).

I am particularly honoured to have been given this opportunity to welcome you all to this recognition day. Welcome everyone present. Thank you and Mabuhay!

******************************************

P.S. The last part of the speech should have been as follows. But she never had the guts to do it.

When I entered BNCHS 6 years ago, I endeavored and dreamed to excel. (Get a smartphone, take a selfie, and raise the phone with the captured self and the crowd as background) And I woke up like this. TELL ME I AM NOT DREAMING! Good morning everyone!

COMMITMENT SPEECH SAMPLE

It was August of last year when my niece asked me to help her making a commitment speech for their induction program. We tried at least to become relevant – August is Buwan ng Wika, so we decided to use most of it in Filipino; she loves Mathematics, so we agreed to use and relate Math as her introduction; she is not actually fluent in English (and she admits that), so she practiced her pagka-maka-bayan kuno! 😁 Below is the full text of her speech and I found it saved on my laptop. ****************************************** Our esteemed Guest speaker, our active School Principal, Faculty and Facilitative Staffs, Fellow Officers, Fellow Students, Ladies and Gentlemen, a pleasant morning to one and all. ...

Pamana

One historian said, "PAMANA (Heritage) is something that is passed down from one generation to the next. Heritage are also family’s tradition, values, wisdom, principles, and formed experiences that are not static but revolves over time ." This poem is inspired by 1 Thessalonians 1:3. Walang patid kong ...

Just a Short Message for Incoming Engineering Students

  (I shared this text to someone and I am inspired to put on here, in hopes that it can encourage also somebody.) Study for life, not for grades. When the time comes that you do not hit your aim to have excellent grades, remember that passing or conditional or even failing grades is a norm in Engineering school. Be strong and have a good courage. Extreme pressures come along. And when failure comes, take in mind and in heart that failure is a not a person. Failure is just an event. Most often, a series of events. Enjoy to endure and endure to enjoy. Engineering is enduring and enjoying. (The half has not yet been told in all engineering Fb pages or vlog contents. Discover the wonders for yourself.) Look for seniors or upper class  men whom you can look up to and listen to them. When you do, you will also have a story to tell to younger than you someday. If you cannot find good kuyas and ates , be the trailblazer. Expect the worst but hope for the best! When we say h...
