Board Exam Diary

Civil Engineering Board Exam Diary

This book has recorded bitter-sweet memories, literally and figuratively. On the pages of it, I fondly wrote random thoughts like,

"Can this be love? Apay agdadanag nak? Hehe"

"Tandaanam JJ: Kakaasi ni Papang ken Mamang mo.. Naanusam ti nagbasa ti 5 years. Anusam agreview. FOCUS."

"The many task we face each day can burden and oppress,
But spending time with God each day
Can bring relief from stress."

"Smile. Jesus loves you!"

"Endure to enjoy. Enjoy to endure."

"God wants to hear you sing. Don't be discouraged. Kaya yan."

"FOCUS. Believe."

"Thank You Lord for the wisdom."

"Ammom JJ kuna ni Bro.Raks (brethren from Cavite, 1st year Law student), iwasan mong magalit/mainis/magtampo. Always have your devotion. Yang emosyon mo ang gagamitin ni Satan para hindi ka makapag-isip at makareview ng mabuti."

"I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST."

"TRUST IN THE LORD. Prov.3:5-6"

"Lord, hindi ko po maintindihan..."

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. Psalms 42:5"

"THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD"

"Lord, inspire me to do my best for Your own glory...."

"NOvember-NOretreat-NOsurrender"

Written on June to November of 2009, I smiled for the memories they have left behind. This CE Reference became a part of my journey to pass my civil engineering board exam almost 10 years ago. When I bought this book during the first week of my review days, I immediately penned on the very first page of it,
"Genesis 39:2 And the LORD was with Joseph..."
This was to remind myself that there was a man in the Old Testament whose name is the same as mine and whom the Lord was with him. More than once it is mentioned on that chapter, "...and the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper." A gentle reminder that what really makes us prosperous is THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD.

Below it, I wrote,"GOD'S GIFT TO
(Engr.) John Joseph M. Esteban"

I acknowledged that this book is just one of the many provisions of God. This was also to remind myself that whatever I have and whatever I will be (including that 4 letter title) is a gift from my Lord.

"Pursue your dreams" is the very common idea that this world direct. But this Joseph in the Bible taught me well. He was a dreamer but he never chase or 'pursue' that dream. He pursued God, and goodness and mercy followed him.

COMMITMENT SPEECH SAMPLE

It was August of last year when my niece asked me to help her making a commitment speech for their induction program. We tried at least to become relevant – August is Buwan ng Wika, so we decided to use most of it in Filipino; she loves Mathematics, so we agreed to use and relate Math as her introduction; she is not actually fluent in English (and she admits that), so she practiced her pagka-maka-bayan kuno! 😁 Below is the full text of her speech and I found it saved on my laptop. ****************************************** Our esteemed Guest speaker, our active School Principal, Faculty and Facilitative Staffs, Fellow Officers, Fellow Students, Ladies and Gentlemen, a pleasant morning to one and all. ...

Pamana

One historian said, "PAMANA (Heritage) is something that is passed down from one generation to the next. Heritage are also family’s tradition, values, wisdom, principles, and formed experiences that are not static but revolves over time ." This poem is inspired by 1 Thessalonians 1:3. Walang patid kong ...

Just a Short Message for Incoming Engineering Students

(I shared this text to someone and I am inspired to put on here, in hopes that it can encourage also somebody.) Study for life, not for grades. When the time comes that you do not hit your aim to have excellent grades, remember that passing or conditional or even failing grades is a norm in Engineering school. Be strong and have a good courage. Extreme pressures come along. And when failure comes, take in mind and in heart that failure is a not a person. Failure is just an event. Most often, a series of events. Enjoy to endure and endure to enjoy. Engineering is enduring and enjoying. (The half has not yet been told in all engineering Fb pages or vlog contents. Discover the wonders for yourself.) Look for seniors or upper class  men whom you can look up to and listen to them. When you do, you will also have a story to tell to younger than you someday. If you cannot find good kuyas and ates , be the trailblazer. Expect the worst but hope for the best! When we say h...
